The CAPIA (Caffeine Citrate for Preterm infants in Africa) project is a collaboration between the ANA and The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. It aims to improve the use of Caffeine Citrate for Preterm infants in Africa.
Caffeine Citrate is the drug of choice in the prevention and treatment of Apnoea of Prematurity in preterm infants. However the drug is neither widely prescribed nor utilised in the management of this population in Africa.
The CAPIA project is a two-phased one with the first being aimed at gathering evidence on the best research modalities for Caffeine Citrate while the second is all around implementation.
